1. Product Overview
The CAMTOP 11″ 5M psi Bolted-Cover Spherical BOP is a large-bore, medium-pressure well-control blowout preventer engineered for 13-3/8″ / 13-5/8″ casing strings on land rigs, jack-up offshore platforms, and HPHT well operations. The spherical body integrates a dual-packer (energized-element) sealing system – a movable piston drives a pair of elastomer packers (Nitrile Blue + Natural Red) radially inward to close the bore around any drill string, kelly, open hole, or wireline tool – or fully shut-in the well when no pipe is in the hole.
API 16A Class 5M (5,000 psi working pressure), API 16D well-control choke-and-kill compatible, and NACE MR0175 sour-service ready as an option. The bolted-cover design allows fast field maintenance – upper housing studs are removed for direct access to the packer assembly, piston, seals, and wear bands without removing the body from the BOP stack.

The image below is the Figure 4-13 Bolted-Cover Spherical BOP Exploded View – the same drawing used in CAMTOP’s service manual. It identifies the position of every internal part inside the assembled BOP. The 11″ 5M variant uses the same component layout as the 7-1/16″ 10M and 13-5/8″ 5M, with the only differences being the bore size, body OD, and a few part numbers (mainly the wear bands and adapter ring wear ring).

7. How It Works
The CAMTOP 11″ 5M Spherical BOP operates on a hydraulic-piston, dual-packer principle:
- Open Position (Standby): Hydraulic pressure is vented; the piston is retracted upward; the packers (Items 5 & 6) retract outward, leaving the full 11″ bore open for tripping drill pipe, casing, or wireline tools.
- Close on Pipe: Hydraulic pressure (3,000 psi recommended) is applied to the operating port; the piston (Item 3) drives downward, forcing the elastomer packers to converge radially around the drill string and seal the annulus.
- Close on Open Hole (Full Shut-In): With no pipe in the hole, the packers converge to the centerline, creating a full-bore metal-to-metal and elastomer seal – the well is completely shut in.
- Wear-Band Function: The replaceable wear bands (Items 16-17 / Item 22) guide the piston and adapter ring during stroking, preventing metal-to-metal contact and dramatically extending the life of the body and piston bore.
- Field Rebuild: Remove upper-housing studs (Items 7-8), lift the upper housing, and all internal parts (Items 5-22) are directly accessible – no need to remove the BOP from the stack.
