PDF Download: ZQ127/25 Operation ManualA hydraulic, mouth-opening power tong engineered for reliable make-up and break-out of drill pipe, tubing and casing in oilfield well-workover operations — from 2 3/8″ to 5 1/2″.
What the ZQ127/25 does — and why it matters on the rig floor
Handles standard API drill pipe connections with consistent, repeatable torque delivery across all string sizes.
2 3/8″ – 3 1/2″ DPMulti-die-seat system adapts to a wide range of tubing ODs. Fast die changeover minimises rig NPT.
2 3/8″ – 4 1/2″ TubingLow-gear planetary drive delivers up to 25 KN·m — enough torque for premium casing connections.
4 1/2″ – 5 1/2″ CasingFlexible-shaft reversing valve immediately halts hydraulic flow whenever the safety door opens.

Follow this sequence for safe and efficient rig-up
Attach the hydraulic lifting bucket to the master-tong lifting bar. Hoist to approximately 15 m above wellhead. In free-suspension state, tong head centre must sit 0.5 m from wellhead centre.
Adjust the levelling screws on the lifting bar until the tong body is horizontal. A non-level tong prevents the dies from gripping properly and will cause jaw slip.
Tie the back-guy line from the rig structure to the back guide-pole seat. The back-guy must be rated for ≥ 50 KN and oriented perpendicular to the drill pipe during make-up operations.
Choose the correct die seat and die using the steel-mark colour code (see Die Selection table). Secure with set screws and screw stop pins.
Lift: Close throttle valve → Open stop valve. Drop: Open throttle valve → Open stop valve. Lock: Close stop valve at target height, then open throttle valve to resume operation.
Mount the flexible-shaft reversing valve at the hydraulic inlet/outlet. Close the safety door and push up the valve core (~8.5 mm travel). Connect the hydraulic station and run idle to verify the interlock cuts power upon door opening.
Close the safety door. Use the hand-control valve to select direction. For break-out, move the guide-pole pin axle to the lowest hole before applying torque.
Three-layer protection built into every ZQ127/25 unit
The flexible-shaft controlled reversing valve (Model RHF.0) provides immediate hydraulic cutoff the instant the safety door is opened. Power cannot resume until the door is fully closed and locked.
A certified 50 KN back-guy line prevents the tong assembly from rotating with the string. The line must remain perpendicular to the pipe axis during all make-up operations.
The tong head centreline must align with the pipe centreline before energising. Misalignment loads the planetary gear eccentrically, accelerating wear and potentially causing sudden gear failure.
Never exceed rated hydraulic pressure (16 MPa) or rated torque (25 KN·m on low gear). Over-torque conditions overload the planetary carrier and can crack the ring gear housing.
If oil temperature rises above 65 °C, seal degradation accelerates. Shut down and allow the system to cool. Replace oil if discolouration or contamination is observed.
Always isolate the hydraulic source and move the tong clear of the wellhead before changing dies, replacing seals, or performing any mechanical maintenance on the tong head assembly.
Proactive maintenance is the most cost-effective way to protect the planetary drive
Inspect and torque all external cap screws before every well. Vibration during operations progressively loosens connections.
Inject lubricating grease into every transmission point (idler shafts, duplex gear shaft, centralizing rollers) before starting operations.
Remove all water and oil stains from the tong body immediately after each use to prevent corrosion of the gear housing.
After completing each well, wash all moving parts with diesel fuel, then re-apply grease to all transmission components.
Monitor oil temperature continuously. Keep below 65 °C. Replace oil on schedule or whenever contamination is detected. Do not use steam cleaning — it strips grease from sealed bearings.
YC-N46 (−20 °C to +40 °C): cold-climate operations.
YB-N46 (−10 °C to +40 °C): wear-resistant, standard desert.
YA-N46 (0 °C to +40 °C): temperate conditions.
